Senegal in the western point of the African continent has limited natural resources with a very vulnerable economy to the variations of the rainfall as well as the world’s commodity price changes. Senegal depends strongly on foreign assistance and fishing is the export leader and contributes 22% of the export earnings. The mining of phosphates contributes an export value of 15% and the 320 tourist hotels are another important foreign exchange earner for the country. Although the port facilities are very costly, they are well developed and an international airport serves 28 international airlines.

The climate in Senegal is tropical with heavy vegetation in the southeast and south, with the north having grasslands or deserts. It is bordered in the south by Guinea and Guinea-Bissau, in the north Mauritania, Mali in the east and to the west the Atlantic Ocean. The capital of Senegal is Dakar and also on the found on the westernmost point of the country. Modern day Senegal is occupied by several ethnic groups, with Wolof the largest at 45%. In Dakar especially the language is Wolof that is spoken by natives, although the official language is French. Around ninety present of the population are of Islamic faith, where 10% are Christian, however immigrants are the ones who mainly attend Protestant churches.

The capital, Dakar is a dazzling city with glittering nightlife, vibrant markets and busy street, Saint-Louis is architecturally gorgeous, Ll de Goree has a meditative calm and N’Gor and Yoff beautiful golden beaches. Tourist season in Senegal is during the cooler season from November to end February with the temperatures around 24 degrees Celsius. Wet month’s tourists will find many national parks to be inaccessible or closed although everything is beautiful and green.
