AIR SENEGAL INTERNATIONAL Ready to replace Air Afrique ?
From a small national company which was not worth very much, Air Senegal International has become a model of success, in less than one year. The partnership with Royal Air Maroc (RAM), which holds 51% of its capital, was surely most beneficial.
For a financial year that ran from 22 February 2001, to the end of December, the results obtained were simply "amazing".
Indeed, the company achieved an 11 billion turnover, against the 7 billion expected, and transported 124,000 passengers, against the 98,000 forecast. It also serviced 82 weekly international flights, against the 48 planned. Moreover, seven capitals of the sub-region were covered, namely Abidjan, Bamako, Nouakchott, Praia, Bissau, Banjul, Casablanca and Las Palmas. Weekly flights to Abidjan will be switched from 5 to 8, and from 4 to 7, for Bamako. In order to achieve this, the fleet will be doubled, with the purchase of two new Boeing 737 and 757.
With such "successful" result, there is no need to say that the small Air Senegal International fully intends to replace Air Afrique, its moribund big sister, all the more so as most other national companies in the sub-region are developing similar alternative strategies. Nice flight plans in perspective.
Zouair Mouhamed El Aoufir :
The airline company, Air Senegal International has largely overrun its estimates, after one year of operation. While it had forecast a 7 billion turnover, it achieved 11 billion. It had planned to transport 98,000 passengers, but drew 124,000 passengers, with 24 national flights and 48 international weekly flights.
