AIR SENEGAL INTERNATIONAL WILL CONNECT DAKAR TO PARIS AS FROM 31 MARCH AFP-17 January 2001
(JAF) (with AFP) - Air Senegal International (ASI), the Senegalese-Moroccan airline company, which belongs 51% to Royal Air Maroc and 49% to the Senegalese government, will service a direct Dakar-Paris connection, as from 31 March next, with three return flights every week, officials of the company announced.
" From three flights, we now intend to switch to four by the end of June ", Mohamed Berrada, the managing Director of Royal Air Maroc, said at a press conference. He is satisfied with the " encouraging performances " of ASI, which has realized a CFAF11 billion (more than Euros16.7 million) turnover " in less than one year of activity ".
The frequency of internal and international flights " is also going to be increased ", as well as the two-plane fleet (a Dash 8 and a Boeing 737), with the next purchase of two other Boeing 757 and 737°, Mr Berrada asserted.
The company, which currently employs 177 people, intends to create " one hundred additional jobs " this year, Air Senegal's Managing Director, Mr Zouhair Mohamed El aoufir, added.
According to Mr El Aoufir, ASI is also considering having its own staff for technical ground assistance and to create a company which specialises in the preparation of in- flight meals. Outlay capital required for those two projects is estimated at $4 million.
The Senegalese-Moroccan company, which has transported " 124,000 passengers via 20 national and 82 international weekly flights " since February 2001, was designated this year's official carrier of Senegalese pilgrims for the Pilgrimage to Mecca .
