Air Senegal International, the airline company, formed by the taking over of the former " Air Senegal " by " Royal Air Maroc " (RAM), is evaluating its first year of activity .
Air Senegal International is in good health for its first anniversary. The company's officials, who had forecast a turnover of CFAF7 billion actually realised a turnover of CFAF 11 billion . The fleet, which was initially made up of two planes (one Boeing 737 - 200 and a Dash 8 Q 300) was enlarged with the purchase of two additional Boeings, a 737 and a 757. They will start flying as soon as next March.
The young airline company had anticipated carryng 98,000 passengers, but managed to transport 124,000 , with 24 national and 48 weekly international flights. Air Senegal International was able to connect to 12 international destinations in its first year. The company, whose share capital is 51% held by Ram and 49% by the Senegalese Government, is hopeful of becoming a means of connecting the West African sub-region. Its is thus considering servicing new destinations, such as Lomé, Niamey, and Paris. One must note that several capitals of the sub-region are already serviced: Bamako, Conakry, Las Palmas, Nouakchott, Praia, Bissau, Abidjan, Banjul, Casablanca, Ouagadougou and Cotonou. The situation of the young company will be assessed next Friday 17 January, on the occasion of a press conference jointly organised by the Ministry of Transport, Yousosuf Sakho, the RAM Managing Director, the President of the Board of Directors and Air Senegal International's Managing Director.
